These records were retained by the Division for World Mission and Ecumenism's (DWME) Secretary for Southern Asia and the Middle East. They are from 1961-1987 with the bulk of the material dating from 1973-1981. Material in this series was generated throughout the course of the LCA's involvement with the United Mission to Nepal (UMN) and contains information related to the beginnings of LCA involvement, concerns raised about the strategic direction of the mission, and project files regarding development projects in which the LCA was involved. Record types include handwritten and typewritten correspondence, meeting minutes, financial statements, budgets, annual reports, topical reports, project grant applications, and program proposals. Subject matter includes material pertaining to the different types of mission work the UMN performed in Nepal including medical, educational, and community development. These records include initial grant applications for an LCA missionary to be deployed to Nepal, correspondence inquiring about the possibility of the LCA joining the UMN, and records related to projects pertaining to community development, nursing education and agriculture. There is also a correspondence related to meeting and travel arrangements, financial contributions of the LCA to the UMN, concerns about the mission's strategic direction, programming developments, and debate on UMN philosophies and priorities. Meeting minutes are only for 1980 and 1981 and do not represent a complete collection.
